Theodore J. Cody
Botz Cody Law is the practice of Theodore J. Cody. The firm has served Sonoma County families since 2011.
Ted Cody specializes in estate planning and estate administration, with a focus on the tax implications of trust and corporate structures. His experience ranges from modest estates to those worth $10 million and more. In addition to wills, powers of attorney, advance health care directives, and all manner of trusts, Ted also advises on succession of family businesses,
including the use of family limited partnerships, which can organize management powers and minimize estate taxes. He is well versed in trust administration and probate law.
Ted draws on nearly three decades of legal experience ranging from general corporate matters to municipal bond financing to estate tax planning. He started out as a corporate attorney at Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth, one of Orange County's top corporate firms. Before cofounding Botz Cody Law, he worked for O'Brien Watters & Davis in Santa Rosa, where he focused on the tax aspects of business structures and estate planning.
Ted is also responsible for the digital side of the firm, having built its website and organized and implemented its digital document storage. Outside the office, he can be found working on the firm's grounds, creating habitat for native plants and beneficial insects while reducing water use. His interests include woodworking and minimalist fitness. He has two daughters with his wife, Sarah Botz, who is also an attorney.
