We keep our costs low and our practice environmentally responsible. Both are deliberate, and both benefit our clients.

Environmental responsibility

 

Botz Cody Law is a green business. We strive for environmental responsibility at every step:

​

• Our office runs on solar power. Our roof panels produce enough electricity to cover all our electrical use, including computers, printers, and lights.

• We store most of our files digitally, which significantly reduces our use of paper, ink, and toner.

• We use email to communicate with clients and to share drafts of documents.

• Our work spaces are designed for abundant natural light. We rarely use lights during daylight hours.

• We work out of our home office, so we do not drive to work or duplicate energy expenses such as heating.

• Our letterhead and envelopes are printed on recycled paper made from 100% post-consumer waste.

Our rain gardens

Our landscape is drought tolerant and includes two rain gardens that filter the water running off our roof.

​

The rain gardens are depressions filled with sandy loam and planted with drought tolerant plants. Drain pipes direct roof runoff straight into them. The water sits in the loam and percolates slowly down to the water table, while the plants absorb chemicals from the roof — including phosphates that would otherwise contribute to algae bloom in Santa Rosa Creek.

Our rain gardens were designed by Rick Taylor of Elder Creek Landscapes, and our solar panels were installed by Ron Dorris Electric Inc.

Technology and cost 

​

We use technology to keep our costs down so that we can keep our fees reasonable.

​

Working from a home office, storing files digitally, and handling billing, communications, and document processing electronically all reduce the overhead a firm would otherwise pass on to its clients. Our fees reflect those savings — see our Fees page for what we charge.

A note on how we work

​

We offer a free initial consultation. If mobility is an issue we can meet at your home, or by phone or zoom, and meetings can be arranged on weekends or evenings if weekdays are not convenient.
