Jim is of counsel to Botz Cody Law. He has 42 years of local-government law experience in Sonoma County including matters involving land use regulations, property and sales taxes, water law, and negotiating conservation easements and similar open-space protection interests.

Jim received his BA degree from UC Berkeley in 1959, majoring in European History. Following active duty with the US Navy, he received his JD degree from UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco in 1964.  He then served as a Deputy County Counsel for seven years before being appointed County Counsel for Sonoma County, a position he held for 27 years until he entered private practice.

Jim is an avid backpacker and is annually trekking on the Pacific Crest Trail.  So far he has backpacked northward 1,200 miles from the Mexican border.
