A partner at our firm, Sarah Botz has been practicing law for more than ten years. She specializes in estate planning and estate administration. In her practice, she learns about you and your family, and then she explains options to ensure that your assets are distributed as you choose with a minimum of fees and taxes. Her experience includes preparing all manner of estate planning documents, such as wills, living trusts, life estates, powers of attorney, and advance health care directives, for a diverse range of clients from young parents with minor children to established people with significant assets.

In estate and trust administration, she works with you to administer the estate of a loved one in order to distribute assets as the person intended and to comply with all legal and administrative requirements, such as tax returns, notifications to appropriate agencies, and payment of funeral expenses and other bills.

Before co-founding Botz Cody Law, she worked at the San Francisco law firms of Morrison & Foerster and The Bernstein Law Group, where she practiced complex civil litigation. As trial counsel, Sarah researched and wrote legal briefs and attended depositions, hearings, and trials. Most importantly, she learned to master specialized subject matter and then make it understandable to other people.  This is a skill she carries forward to estate planning and estate administration.

Born and raised in Santa Rosa, Sarah attended Proctor Terrace Elementary School, Santa Rosa Junior High, and Santa Rosa High School.  She received her BA from Mount Holyoke College with a major in English and her JD from Georgetown University Law Center, cum laude, where she served as an editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. Following law school, Sarah served as law clerk to the Honorable William Alsup for the Federal District Court for the Northern District of California.

She has two lovely daughters with her husband and law partner, Ted Cody. She spends much of her free time cooking with the best local ingredients she can find. Every Saturday morning she and her family can be found at the Santa Rosa Farmer’s market.
