A partner at Botz Cody Law, Ted Cody specializes in estate planning and estate administration, with a focus on the tax implications of trust and corporate structures. His experience ranges from modest estates to those worth $10 million and more. In addition to wills, powers of attorney, advance health care directives, and all manner of trusts, Ted also advises on succession of family businesses, including the use of family limited partnerships, which can organize management powers and minimize estate taxes. He is well versed in trust administration and probate law.

Ted draws on more than a decade of legal experience ranging from general corporate matters to municipal bond financing to estate tax planning. Ted started off as a corporate attorney at Straddling Yocca Carlson & Rauth, one of Orange County's top corporate firms. Before cofounding Botz Cody Law, he worked for O'Brien Watters & Davis in Santa Rosa, where he focused on the tax aspects of business structures and estate planning. 

In 1994, Ted received his AB degree with honors from UC Berkeley. In 1997, he received his JD from Stanford Law School, where he served as an editor of the Stanford Journal of Law and Technology.

At Botz Cody Law, Ted wears several hats. He is Chief Technology Officer, responsible for the digital side of Botz Cody Law. Tapping into his natural affinity for technology, he has built the firm’s website and has organized and implemented the firm’s digital document storage. He is also our landscaper. On weekends and evenings, Ted can be found working on our yard to create a habitat for native plants and beneficial insects while reducing our water use.  

Ted’s interests also include day-trading stocks and paleo fitness.  He has two lovely daughters with his wife and law partner, Sarah Botz.
